History of Fenway



Fenway is a neighborhood in Boston that has long been known as the home to the Boston Red Sox baseball team. The area has a park called the Fens which was developed in the 19th century by Frederick Law Olmstead a landscape architect who also created Central Park in New York City.

Fenway was formed after land was annexed from Brookline in the 1870s as part of the Brooklinke Boston annexation in 1873. The area was originally developed with the conception that it would house high wealth residents of the area and become a high class neighborhood but as property values in the Fenway area rose educational institutions were build and by 1907 there were 22 educational institutions in the Fenway area.

Fenway is a neighborhood in Boston that primarily consists of apartments and is packed with students. Fenway is home to the most elite public school in the nation, the Boston Latin School which boasts alumni such as Ben Franklin, John Hancock, and Joseph Kennedy. Fenway park, the oldest park in major league baseball history opened in 1912 is located in the heart of Fenway and brings thousands of fans into the area regularly.

Residents of Fenway



Although Fenway was built with high wealth in mind, today the residents of the area tend to be mostly students. The majority of Fenway residents are while with a small number of Asian, African American and Hispanic residents also mixed into the area. Most Fenway residents are between the ages of 18 and 44 with a median household income of $25,356. Due to the high number of student residents in Fenway, the area has a high number percentage of residents who are living below poverty.

Fenway apartments are typically priced from about $1,700 to $3,500 per month depending on the exact location, the size of the apartment and the amenities offered within the building. Fun Things to do in Fenway



Fenway has many different things to do in the area besides going to a Red Sox game. For the art lover, Fenway is home to Boston's Museum of Fine Arts which houses a collection of more than 450,000 works of art including the Claude Monet, Paul Revere's work, and a mummy exhibit.

Fenway is also home to the Symphony Hall which is where the Boston Symphony Orchestra can be seen regularly. Another historic place to visit in Fenway is the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum which was built to hold the peripatetic collector's artwords by old masters like Titian, Vermeer and Rembrandt. This building has been open to the public in Fenway since 1903.
