Emerson College Area



 
Boston is home to a private educational university known as Emerson College which was founded in 1880 by Charles Wesley Emerson and was a school dedicated to communication and the arts in a liberal arts context. Today, Emerson College offers dozens of different degree programs that are versed in the area of Arts and Communication.

The Emerson College area is a small area of Boston located in the Theatre District just on the southeast edge of Boston Common. The college actually owns the Cutler Majestic Theatre which is located at 219 Tremont Street and has been open since 1903. Additionally, the college also has European programs that are featured in Holland and has an academic center on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood California.

Emerson College area in Boston is home to four different residence halls that house students. The Piano Row and Max Mutchnick Center located at 150 Boylston Street in Boston is a recently constructed building that was built in 2006 to replace the resident hall and student union buildings that were located on Beacon Street and Arlington Street. This building is located in the Piano Row district hence the common reference to this building as the Piano Row residence hall.

The Little Building, located at 80 Boylston Street houses administrative offices and also houses more than 750 students over ten floors. The entire building here is twelve stories and features a cafeteria, a workout center and enough space in the basement for small performances which accommodate up to 150 people. Within the Little Building, singles, doubles, triples and double couples are housed in residences that each house 4-6 people.

Another Emerson College area residence hall is located at 100 Boylston Street. The Colonial Building is a recently renovated residence hall that houses 372 students of Emerson College in single and double rooms that have 3-6 person environments with shared bathrooms. The Emerson College students in this residence share kitchens and laundry facilities in the Colonial Building.

Apartments around Emerson College range in size and subsequently in price. Most apartments in the area are one bedroom efficiency style that are priced generally around $900 per month. Depending on the apartment amenities, some Emerson College apartments for rent may be priced slightly higher than $1,000 per month but there are typically very affordable rates in the area due to the high volume of college students seeking rental housing in the Emerson College area.
